I write about compassion, hoping in some small way to help nurses and health-care professionals to find that wellspring within themselves that sources irrepressible compassion.

Every once in a while I find…or in this case, stumble upon an organization that exemplifies the kind of compassion that I aspire towards.

I’m devoting this post and the space for this post, to the organization – Band of Brothers Charity Venture Group. I came upon their site by accident, if there is such a thing, and found myself deeply moved by the scope of their work, and the clarity of their vision.

From their website, I cut and pasted the following:

What makes Band of Brothers different from other charities?

  • Band of Brothers is the antithesis of the “black-tie ballroom charity”. We are a small, roll-up-sleeves/get-hands-dirty, band of global adventurers.
  • We leverage not just our ability to fund charitable missions, but the skills, resources, knowledge, and hands-on capabilities of our members.
  • We strive to make philanthropy very meaningful and adventurous..
  • Our target focus is grassroots projects where funds go directly to children and families in developing nations.
  • All missions provide the option for active and dedicated members to visit the children we support, and for less active members to see more detailed information on where their money goes.
  • We are religious-neutral; our efforts and decisions are driven by caring for children and not by the religion.

I can think of no organization more deserving of space on this blog. Please visit them and support them in their endeavors. And, if you know of other organizations that need or deserve promotion, please let me know. Actually, there is another such organization, located here in Boulder, who I’ll write about in another blog post.

Take care.
